Notch

Invisible Teleprompter for Screen Sharing

Notch is an invisible teleprompter: a floating script overlay that you can see on your screen while it stays hidden from supported screen sharing. Your audience sees your slides, browser or demo, and you keep your notes just below the webcam. It works on Mac and Windows, alongside Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and other apps, and protection varies by app and operating system, so it's worth a quick test.

Illustrative demo: spoken words darken as the script follows along, pauses, then resumes in an automatic loop. No microphone is used. Example script: Quick Q2 update: revenue is up 14%, activation reached 68%, and churn is down to 3.1%. We’re still two points below our activation target. This quarter, we’re focusing on onboarding so new teams see value sooner.

How to set up an invisible teleprompter

  1. Download Notch for Mac or Windows and paste your script.

  2. Place the teleprompter near your webcam, on top of the window you plan to share.

  3. Share your screen as usual, then check a quick test share to confirm others don't see your script.

Visible to you, not to your audience

  • Hidden from supported sharing

Notch asks your operating system to keep its window out of supported screen sharing and capture.

  • An overlay on top of your work

The teleprompter floats above your slides, browser or demo, so your notes stay in view whatever you open.

  • Next to your camera

Keep your lines just below the webcam, so reading looks like eye contact as well as staying private.

  • Follows your voice

The script moves as you speak and waits when you pause, using speech recognition on your computer.

How hiding from screen sharing works

When you share your screen, your meeting app captures an image of it and sends it to the call. Windows and macOS let an app ask to be left out of that capture. Notch makes that request for its teleprompter window, so supported sharing tools capture everything else on your screen but not the script.

This depends on the operating system and on how the sharing app captures your screen. Some tools and sharing modes respect the request and some don't, and that can change with updates. That's why Notch describes it as hidden from supported screen sharing rather than invisible everywhere.

What your audience sees

What you share Is Notch included?
A single window, such as your slides No. Notch is a separate window.
A single browser tab No. Notch isn't part of the browser.
Your whole screen, in a supported app No. Notch asks to be left out of the capture.
Your whole screen, in an app that doesn't support it It may appear. Check with a test share.

Sharing a single window or tab is the most predictable option whenever your meeting app offers it, because the teleprompter is never part of what is sent.

Test before it matters

  1. Start a meeting with yourself, or with a colleague, in the app you'll use.
  2. Open your script in Notch and share your screen with the same option you plan to use.
  3. Check the shared view from the other side, or the self-view of your share, to confirm your script isn't visible.

Repeat the test after a major operating system or meeting app update.

An overlay that stays in your eyeline

A transparent or overlay teleprompter is only useful if it's where your eyes already are. Place Notch at the top of the screen, just below the camera, and keep it to a few lines. You can read your next point while looking almost straight at the lens, and the window you're presenting stays visible below it.

Private in more than one way

Hiding from screen sharing keeps your script away from the audience. Voice following is private too: the speech recognition that moves your script runs on your computer, so your voice isn't sent to the cloud to follow along.

Frequently asked questions

What is an invisible teleprompter?

An invisible teleprompter is a script window you can see on your screen but that people on a call don't see when you share your screen. Notch does this with supported screen sharing on Mac and Windows.

Is Notch invisible in every screen share?

Not in every case. Notch is hidden from supported screen sharing, and protection varies by app, operating system and sharing method. Make a short test share with the same app and settings before an important call.

Is there a transparent teleprompter for my computer?

Notch is a floating teleprompter overlay that sits on top of your other windows near the webcam. You keep reading your script while your slides, browser or demo stay visible beneath and around it.

Does it work on Zoom, Teams and Google Meet?

Notch runs alongside any meeting app as its own window. If you share a single window or browser tab, Notch isn't part of it. If you share your whole screen, it is hidden from supported screen sharing.

Will the teleprompter show up in screenshots or recordings of my screen?

Notch asks your system to keep its window out of supported capture, but capture protection is not universal. Check with the specific tool you use.

Is this the same as hiding my notes on a second monitor?

It's closer to the camera. A second monitor keeps notes out of a share, but you look away to read them. Notch keeps them just below the webcam, on the same screen as the call.

Try Notch before your next call
