Tips for reading from a teleprompter
- Keep the text near your camera. Put the browser window at the top of the screen, so your eyes stay close to the lens.
- Start slower than you think. Raise the speed with the arrow keys once you're comfortable.
- Use a narrower width. Shorter lines mean less eye movement from side to side.
- Write the way you speak. Short sentences and paragraph breaks give you natural places to breathe.
- Rehearse once before you go live, so the words feel like yours.
Frequently asked questions
Is this teleprompter free?
Yes. You can scroll for 30 minutes a day in each browser, with no sign-up and no account. The minutes reset at midnight, your local time.
Does my script get uploaded?
No. Your script, settings and the minutes you've used are saved in this browser's local storage so they're still there after a reload. Nothing is sent to Notch or anyone else. Clearing this site's data in your browser removes them.
Can I use this teleprompter on Zoom?
You can keep it in a window beside your call and read from it. A browser tab can't hide itself from screen sharing, though, so anyone watching your shared screen sees it. The Notch desktop app for Mac and Windows stays hidden during supported screen sharing.
How do I mirror text for a teleprompter rig?
Turn on Mirror. The text flips horizontally so it reads the right way round in the rig's glass. Then choose Fullscreen on the screen that sits under the glass.
What's the difference from the Notch app?
This page scrolls at a speed you set. The Notch app for Mac and Windows follows your voice in six languages, stays hidden during supported screen sharing, sits at the top of your screen close to your camera, and has no daily limit. It's free to try, then a one-time purchase.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes, in a current browser. Where the browser doesn't offer fullscreen, the prompter fills the window instead.
What happens after 30 minutes?
The teleprompter pauses and your script stays saved. You can carry on tomorrow, or download Notch for Mac or Windows, which has no daily limit.
